CANBERRA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- One of Australia's largest breweries, Coopers, has on Wednesday retracted its involvement in a video in which two government MPs discuss the case for and against same-sex marriage in Australia, following extensive consumer boycotts over the weekend.

The video was made by The Bible Society - to which Coopers often donates money - and was released on Friday, but following widespread backlash from consumers, pubs and hotels which stock Coopers' products, the company has apologized for "getting involved in politics."

In an apology video released late Tuesday, Coopers Brewery's director of corporate affairs, Melanie Cooper said the company was "deeply sorry" for involvement in the sensitive issue.

"Our company supports marriage equality," Cooper said, "Offence has been taken by our recent involvement, for which we are deeply sorry.

"We have listened to a range of community views, we acknowledge this feedback and respect everyone's individual opinions and beliefs.

"We will be taking steps to show further support for our community, including joining Marriage Equality Australia."

Also in the video, managing director Tim Cooper said Coopers has had a "longstanding" link with the community, and admitted it was a mistake to make a video which conflicted with the company's "core values."
